Fishing in RuneScape is not only a recreation, but a large part of the RuneScape economy. It can be done by members and non-members, new players or old. Fishing can be done at all rivers and streams, and many spots on the seas and islands surrounding RuneScape. Although there are others, fish is the main food used to heal lost hit points and health.

Locations where fish may be found are marked on the World Map and may be recognized on the spot by the white bubbles rising to the top of the water.

All that's required to fish is a piece of fishing equipment such as a fishing pole or net, and in some cases, bait. To fish, in most cases, you simply left-click your mouse on the fishing "hole" while your fishing implement (pole, net, etc.) is in your personal inventory. Fishing is a "fatigue skill" and will require rest when your fatigue level reaches it's peak.

Fishing is a great way to earn money and substantially-healing food when you are level 40 or above. At first, you have to start out catching shrimp using a net. You will soon get to level 10, and will then be able to use a fishing rod. Using a fishing rod gets you bigger and better fish such as Sardine and Herring, both of which earn you more experience than shrimp. However, you?ll have to buy bait to catch these fish.

If you're a member, your next level goal should be level 16, where you?ll be able to use a big net. A big net is a member?s only object. You can then catch boots, leather gloves, seaweed, caskets, Mackerel, and Cod. Caskets contain treasure such as gold, gems, and the elusive "half key." The next fishing level goal is level 20, where you can use a fly-fishing rod. Of course, you get more experience for catching Trout and Salmon with a fly fishing rod. You also need to buy and/or kill chickens to obtain feathers that are used as bait.

After completing that level, you move on to catching Tuna with a harpoon; level 35. Again, you gain a lot more experience than with the previous levels.

Next you?re finally able to catch lobsters, at level 40. Lobsters are one of the greatest things to sell raw or cooked. You can bring them to a certificate stall (five raw or cooked) and trade them for certificates so that you can carry, trade, and sell them easier. Additionally, you can sell them for 1,000 gold coins per certificate.

Getting to level 46 is pretty hard, but when you reach it, you can use your big net again (a member?s only item) and catch Bass. You will still catch the other fish that you caught before using the big net. But you need money, stick with Lobster fishing.

Swordfish is the next fish to catch, at level 50, using a harpoon. Swordfish sell for 2,000 gold coins a certificate, but they are not as popular as lobsters are. You will also still catch Tuna while Swordfish fishing.

Lava Eel is a member fish and requires level 53. Lava Eel is used for the Hero?s Quest. Finally, the last fish to catch is Shark. But it takes a long time to get to level 76 from level 56. Shark is worth 5k a cert; and it is always best to sell cooked shark.
